Preface The Afton Copper Deposit, located 13km west of Kamloops, British Columbia, has a projected service life of 11a and has been mined for 9a. Open pit mining is as deep as 700 feet below the surface (1ft = 0.3048m) and the design eventually reaches 970ft. Excavation is carried out in a very complicated structure and lithology. Slope damage inevitably occurs but it is limited to small, easily handled sabotage. They do not jeopardize production or safety. In order to deal with these damage, we must understand their nature, the most important is the speed of displacement, while also monitoring the displacement vector and hydrological parameters. The monitoring system is based on optoelectronics
