Researchers at Rutgers University have studied the production of high-strength structural ceramics by mixing alumina and zirconia powders under high temperature to increase their toughness. The breaking strength of the new ceramic is 125,000 psi compared to the high strength porcelain having a breaking strength of 5,000 to 10,000 psi.
