Hermann Hesse’s novel The Song of the Wanderers shaped a character named Siddhartha who sought for truth and sought consciousness, and explored one of the problems with the journey of Dharma: religion except What else does it mean by precepts and forms? And, more inquired into: How to penetrate the surface of all religions and deepen their essence? The author gives the answer, that is, the experience and thinking of all life processes. This article attempts to analyze the theme of “the full realization and understanding of oneself can only see the nature of religion and gain consciousness” revealed in the novel from two aspects. First of all, this article will demonstrate that the form and religion of religion obscures the nature of religion and thus points out the reason why Siddhartha left his religious sect. Second, the article will rely on the preciousness of the textual analysis experience and its intrinsic relationship with the religious nature. The author believes that although the author affirmed only this path of experiencing self-awareness, the road to enlightenment through religious denominations is actually essentially the same as the former. Because both are ultimately rooted in the recognition of self-centeredness, which is exactly what author Hesse wants to express.
