Two experimental backwaves were fabricated, demonstrating that a voltage-tuned oscillator with sufficient power output can be obtained within the millimeter-wave region. The design and operating characteristics of these pipes are discussed. They have a wide frequency range and milliwatts of output power, suitable for millimeter-wave signal generator and the local oscillator. To promote the design, it is expected that the helical stripback oscillating tube can deliver usable power up to 150000 MHz (2 mm).
