Summer Resort, also known as Chengde Ligong or Rehe Palace, was the place where Qing emperors took summer vacations and handled government affairs. The Summer Resort is located on the narrow valley of the west bank of the Wulie River in the north of the downtown area of Chengde, Hebei Province, 230 kilometers away from Beijing. It was founded in 1703 and has been built by the emperors of the Qing Dynasty for three generations: Kangxi, Yongzheng and Qianlong. It took about 90 years to complete. Compared with the Forbidden City in Beijing, the Summer Resort is a simple and elegant village-style rustic style. It takes the natural landscape and absorbs the scenery of Jiangnan Saibei, making it the largest existing ancient imperial palace in China.
