The main thesis of this article is as follows: The market ideology has played a great mobilization force in overthrowing the directive economy in Poland and other Central European countries. However, the implementation of market principles, especially market principles that strictly followed neo-liberal economics, soon led to the destruction of the entire Polish ideal, especially among the various social strata that traditionally constituted the solid foundation of the Solidarity movement. Therefore, the transition to democracy and the market economy is carried out under the pressure of the public, and the ebb and flow of ideals is becoming increasingly widespread, posing a serious obstacle to further economic restructuring. This article focuses on the following issues: the structural legacy of commanding economies in post-communist societies; the integration and disintegration of market principles; and the preliminary estimation of the impact of the collapse of the Soviet blocs on global markets.
