Hundreds of caterpillars called Gypsy moths crawled over a tree. Their beaks greedily ate green leaves and left bare branches. But strangely, only a few of the beech forests were preyed by pests, and most of the trees were unscathed and lush. Scientists have discovered that many trees and other plants do not wait to face the “enemy of the enemy.”
