中国山水画从人物画的衬景发展到独立成科,经过了一个相当长的过程。它起源于战国之前,魏晋南北朝时因为社会玄学之风兴起,追求“魏晋风骨”的晋人寄情山水之间,山水画才得到了滋孕,及至隋唐时才终于从人物画中脱离出来成为独立的画科。之后,经过五代、宋元明清以及当代的大师们的传承与开拓,创造了许多优秀技法和经典画作以及丰富完善的画理画论,构筑了一个博大精深,庞大繁杂的中国山水画体系,成为独具中国审美特色的艺术体系。
