现代文坛巨匠林语堂与刘和珍之死有密切的关系,他在鲁迅撰《纪念刘和珍君》一文之前写的《悼刘和珍杨德群女士》一文鲜为人知。当时,林语堂任北京女子师范大学教务长,刘和珍是他很喜爱的学生。3月18日早晨8时许,刘和珍以女师大学生自治会名义请林语堂准予停课一天,以便游行请愿。他当即允准,并告诉她今后如因参加爱国运动而须停课,请及早与他接洽。
