[U.S. “Nuclear Waste News,” May 30, 1991, p. 127] The U.S. House of Representatives Appropriations Committee gave the Department of Energy (DOE) an additional 43 million U.S. dollars in environmental recovery and nuclear waste management in fiscal 1992. The original DOE requested $3.705 billion, and the committee recommended $3.749 billion. See Table 1 for details. As the public is concerned about the high concentration of radionuclides in the Savannah River, the DOE will develop a plan by September 30 to determine the extent of the public’s exposure to these fish.
