《红楼梦》中“离恨天”一词只出现过三次,但它却把宝黛二人爱情的神话缘起、预寓和现实结局都贯穿起来了,在全书中起着重要的结构作用。《红楼梦》中“离恨天”的建构是对元曲和《西游记》等文学作品中“离恨天”的继承和超越。《红楼梦》中“离恨天”同元曲一样指向爱情的悲剧,却比之更具象更完整,成为宝黛爱情故事的特定意象;同《西游记》一样指向无欲世界,却剥去了其宗教外在形式,从内质上直接指向“色即空”的佛教哲理。同时它又凝聚着作家的辛酸泪,成为具有深邃意蕴的文学意象。而后来众多仿写小说中的“离恨天”未得个中三昧,远不能望其项背。
