Objective To analyze the blood lipids of Shanghai residents in the late 90s and to compare them with the surveys conducted in the 1970s and 1980s to understand the changes of average blood lipid levels among residents of different ages. Methods A total of 36 47 blood samples collected from Shanghai factories, institutions, enterprises, institutions, schools and other employees and students and neonatal umbilical cord blood samples from 1997 to 1999 were collected. The levels of total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride TG, LDL C and HDL C levels. From the newborn to the age of 70, the age group was 10 years old and male and female were respectively analyzed statistically. Results (1) The level of blood lipids increased with age, and TC and LDL C after 5 years old were higher than those in men, and TG was close to men after 50 years old. HDL C was higher in all age groups than in men; (2) TC and TG levels were significantly higher in the 1990s than in the 1970s, by 6.79% -17.69% and 21.95% -45.5, respectively 3%, while the HDL C decreased by 8.05% ~ 2 9.19%. (3) TC and TG levels in people over 40 years old exceeded the upper limit in the 90s (TC115 7%, female 16 0 2% 40 40% of TG men and 40 40% of women) were significantly higher than those of the 70’s (40 40% in TC, 40 40% in women, 52 20% in TG, and 5 70% in women); (4) The TC / HDL C≥4 in the group of 40 years old and the TG≥1.70mmol / L were obviously increased (20.74% in the male, 10.99% in the male, 13.32% in the female, 2.60% in the female). Conclusion With the improvement of residents’ living standard, average blood lipid level has an upward trend and must be very note
