The junior high school history textbook used since September 1987, that is, the transitional textbook, differs greatly from the current “Chinese history” of junior middle schools in content and arrangement. In order to highlight the characteristics of the new textbook, People’s Education Press designed a new textbook cover (see the back cover of this issue). The newly designed cover of the first volume of the “History of China” in junior high school adopted the method of overlapping color blocks to change the principle of composition of the original textbook cover to make it clear and eye-catching. The title of “Chinese history” is in the middle of the cover, with black and white overprint, clear and bright, but also the rate of the surrounding color groups, and the background color can maximize the words set off from the center. The pattern of the top right of the new cover is a pottery decoration unearthed at the Yangpo-Shao cultural site in Banpo, Xi’an. The human fish pattern not only represents the highest level of our country’s primitive culture, but also fully reflects the ancient people’s pursuit of life full of imagination and beauty.
