Several manufacturers now produce HMDs that are suitable for use during the night and are also suitable for daylight needs. Usually during daytime and nighttime operations, respectively, helmet displays have different characteristics of the requirements. However, many mission scenarios require that the HMD be capable of both daylight and nighttime use in performing a single task, thus requiring that the IIMD have a 24-hour capability. This article discusses the design methodology for a 24-hour HMD that uses the modern technology provided for stationary and rotating wings.
