The frequency of turbidite sediment events preserved was inferred by graded recirculation within the DSDP borehole of the Coral Sea and the Sea of Japan Sea. These sedimentary events can be compared with the maximum number of tectonic uplifts respectively in the Irvine-Stanley Mountains in Papua and the missile bombs in Japan. The tendency of the frequency of turbidity flow deposition preserved or decreased corresponds to the tendency of increase and decrease of tectonic ascending velocity respectively. Therefore, the frequencies of individual turbidite sedimentary events deposited in the sedimentary basin provide an independent measure of the relative velocity of tectonic uplift near the provenance area.
