The purpose of this paper is to evaluate whether electrical sounding and electromagnetic sounding methods are effective for studying crustal properties before an earthquake. Understanding this property is a prerequisite to understanding the methods by which earthquakes can be predicted. This paper will discuss the relationship between the mechanical and electrical properties of liquid-saturated rocks, and will be used to qualitatively estimate the relationship between the shallow resistivity and stress changes in the crust.
