4/3规格影像传感器面积约是35mm胶片的1/4,但是它比起消费类高端机型采用的2/3规格影像传感器仍然大了4倍以上。作为一个开放性的专为数码单反制定的标准,4/3系统影像传感器尺寸为18mm×13.5mm。这个尺寸小于APS系统影像传感器(23.7mm×15.5mm)。4/3系统影像传感器长度正好是传统35mm胶片尺寸36mm×24mm的一半,其成像画面比例为4:3。4/3系统采用的CCD影像传感器对角线长度大约为22.3mm。通常,影像传感器的大小表示一直是沿用真空影像管(Vidicon Tube)的计算方法而得出的结果,这一计算方法计算的是整个感光器件的对角线长度而不仅仅是计算成像感光部分。所以,更准确的表述方法是称其为“4/3规格”感光器件。在制定这一标准之后,奥林巴斯向人们宣称了4/3系统的优势:作为一个全新的数码单反系统,其镜头专门为数码成像作了最大程度优化。4/3规格影像传感器在提供了优质影像的同时,也使得其整个系统更为轻便小巧。比较容易理解的是,同光圈的长焦镜头,假如应用在4/3系统上将比传统35mm相机焦距大1倍。
The 4/3 format image sensor is about 1/4 the size of a 35mm film, but it is still more than four times larger than a 2/3 specification image sensor used in consumer premium models. As an open standard for digital SLR development, 4/3 system image sensor size is 18mm × 13.5mm. This size is smaller than the APS system image sensor (23.7mm × 15.5mm). The length of the 4/3 system image sensor is exactly half the size of a traditional 35mm film 36mm × 24mm, with an imaging ratio of 4: 3.4 / 3. The diagonal length of the CCD image sensor used in the system is about 22.3mm. In general, the size of an image sensor is always the result of a calculation using the Vidicon Tube, which calculates the diagonal length of the entire light-sensing device, not just the imaging light-sensitive portion. Therefore, a more accurate representation is called “4/3 specification” photosensitive device. After enacting this standard, Olympus claimed the 4/3 system advantage: As a brand new digital SLR system, the lens was optimized for digital imaging. The 4/3 specification image sensor, while providing high-quality images, also makes the entire system more lightweight and compact. More easily understandable, the same aperture telephoto lens, if applied to the 4/3 system will be 1 times larger than the traditional 35mm camera focal length.
