In this paper the tectonic deformation framework, lithosphere structure, spatial and temporal coupling deformation in the Qinhai-Tibet plateau and its outer foreland basins are first discussed. Then a dynamic model of multidirectional collision-wedging uplift is proposed to interpret formation, uplift and evolution of this plateau. In this model multidirectional collision and wedging are two critical factors. The lateral exchange of materials is stressed. Thus the thick crust and thin mantle texture and the thin crust and thick mantle texture inside and outside the plateau can be interpreted. Coupling deformation is in fact a result of the lateral exchange of materials.
