Toho and Toei and other Japanese movie distribution companies have entered the transformation of the performance system. The former, in collaboration with NTT West Japan and Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, is engaged in verification experiments that use high-speed networks to send digitized new films to cinemas and publish them there. The latter, in collaboration with Japan’s JSAT, is also experimenting with the use of communications satellites to send video content to theaters. Toho and NTT West Japan will use optical fiber that can send and receive large amounts of data in a short period of time (at a transfer rate of 1Gbps), and publish an animated film “Discover the Mysteries of the Thousands” scheduled for launch in July this year
