This article aims at the upsurge of a new round of historical fictions appearing in the literary world in the past two decades in China. It points out that the trend of contemporary British historical fictions presents two main lines: historical novels and post-colonial historical rewriting. Although each has its own different literary mission, in the consideration of literature and history, the fictionalization of literature and the truth of history, both of them jointly point to the possibility of historical reproduction. The article points out that after the Second World War, the decline of the British Empire, the global post-modernist and post-colonial process, the intellectual debate on the historical text and the historic text provided the conditions and opportunities for the formation and development of contemporary historical novels.
