Objective To observe the effects of sodium bicarbonate on the infectivity and fecundity of Trichinella spiralis larvae. Methods Trichinella spiralis muscle larvae were treated with 1% sodium bicarbonate in vitro at different times and observed their vitality. 100 male Kunming mice were randomly divided into 10 groups (10 rats in each group), 5 rats in each group from 1 to 3 were fed with sodium bicarbonate or normal saline for different time (24, 36, 48 hours) Caterpillar muscle larvae mouse muscle (about 0.02g); 4 to 9 groups were fed with different doses of sodium bicarbonate or edible vinegar (total acid concentration 4.5%, pH3.05) 0.5h after feeding containing 300 muscle larvae Meat, 10 groups for the saline control group. Five mice were killed in each group on the 7th day and the 42nd day after feeding, and the numbers of adult worms, muscle larvae and fecundity index (RCI) were observed. Results The mortality of muscle larvae treated with sodium bicarbonate for 24 ~ 240 h was not significantly different from that of saline control group (P> 0.05). The number of muscle larvae (84467, 84600 and 82 323) in mice fed with sodium bicarbonate for 24, 36 and 48 h after treatment was significantly higher than that of the saline control group (12650, 6460 and 1240 ) (P <0.05). The number of intestinal tract adults (193,203) and RCI (323.77,326.55) fed 0.4,0.6 ml sodium bicarbonate mice were significantly higher than those of the vinegar control group (68,67; 217.55,195.33) and saline Control group (145, 268.13) (P <0.05). Conclusion Sodium bicarbonate can significantly increase Trichinella spiralis infectivity and fecundity.
