Chronic diseases have become the focus of global public health concern, costing trillions of dollars in health care costs annually and killing more than 36 million people. Lifestyle, such as physical inactivity, is closely linked to the development of many chronic diseases. Urgent need to take primary and secondary prevention measures to reduce the negative economic and social impact of these diseases. Today, physical activity and exercise are the most important interventions in primary and secondary prevention of chronic diseases. As the prevalence of chronic diseases continues to rise, more attention should be paid to the primary prevention of diseases so as to reduce the risk of adolescents and adults. Secondary prevention should also be given to children and adults who have already suffered from chronic diseases. Research shows that the inclusion of physical activity and exercise in medical programs can significantly reduce the prevalence of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity and cancer. Therefore, there is a need to integrate a national manual on physical activity with health promotion programs such as “Exercise is good medicine” to promote global physical activity and increased levels of exercise.
