This study investigated the antihypertensive factor (AHF) extracted from erythrocytes of Sprague-Dawley rats to attenuate the precontraction of phenylephrine induced Wistar rat thoracic aorta. The results showed that: AHF aortic strips dilated endothelium and dose-dependent. Both L-nitroarginine and methylene blue blocked the vasodilator effect of AHF, whereas copper-zinc superoxide dismutase promoted the vasodilator effect of AHF. Tip AHF by stimulating endothelial cells to produce ammonia or its analogues, thereby activating the vascular smooth muscle cells within the pathway of soluble guanylate cyclase induced vasodilation.
