Objective To study the telomerase activity in cervical cancer tissues and corresponding paracancerous tissues to explore its potential as a tumor marker of cervical cancer. Methods TRAP was used to detect telomerase activity in 20 cases of cervical cancer and corresponding paracancerous tissues. Results The positive rate of telomerase in 20 cervical cancer tissues was 80% (16/2 0), while that in the corresponding paracancerous tissues was 15% (3/20) The difference was significant (P <0.01). Conclusion Telomerase is a specific marker of malignant tumor, which may be an ideal marker for early diagnosis and treatment of cervical cancer.
