荀海的行书,典雅端庄,透着一股清气。很显然,他把目光瞄准了初唐的行书书风,这其中可见他对于欧阳询的行书取法很深。欧阳询的行书用笔婉约,发力方式简捷,颇类似晋人笔意,这就是其优势。从后往前取法,我以为这才是上溯之法。比如,苏东坟由杨凝式上溯魏晋,王觉斯由米芾上溯魏晋,这都是前人的高明之处和成功办法。令人流行从《书谱》上溯二王也是一法。那么,荀海能够从初唐的欧阳询行书上溯魏晋的筒约笔法和格调,我以为这就是其高明之处,甚至,这条路几乎没有人这么走过。学某家往往圉于某家而泥古不化,而学某家仅仅是作为上攀的一条途径,则显现出了高明。
