As one of the most influential writers of modern American drama, Edward Albi made his name as “The Story of a Zoo” and reached the peak of dramatic creation “Who Afraid of Virginia Woolf”, starting from “Little Alice” Trough. Among his dramatic works, the early dramas were the most critically acclaimed circles: Sandbox, American Dream, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf and A Subtle Balance. The dispute between men and women is a recurring motif in these plays. Through his use of this motto, Albi expresses the irony of spiritual emptiness in materialistic society. It is also due to Albi’s use of this motive force to consolidate his position in the history of the United States drama.
