刚刚在兰州落下帷幕的第四届中国艺术节,是二年多来我国文艺创作、舞台艺术优秀成果的一次集中展现,参演的剧(节)目,从思想内容到艺术形式,与过去相比,都有进一步的深化和开拓.自1987年我国首次举办艺术节以来,这是继在昆明之后第二次在首都以外的城市举办具有世界影响的高规格、高水平、大规模的国家级艺术盛会.其目的在于通过集中展现近两年文艺工作者在继承和发扬我国优秀文化传统、借鉴和吸收外国优秀艺术方面所取得的成果,进一步繁荣和发展社会主义文艺,弘扬民族文化,扩大中外交流与合作,振奋民族精神、推动两个文明建设.
