不同民族都有自己独特的语言。人们要想达到交往与沟通的预期目的,就必须使用双方都能充分运用和理解的语言,英语则是国际交往中应用最为广泛的通用语言。我国改革开放以来,参与国际间的经济、技术、文化等交流与合作日益频繁,掌握英语已成为参与上述活动的交际工具和必要手段。不少在职人员深感不谙英语,或者知之不多给工作带来诸多不便。为此,社会各界竞相举办各种类型的英语训练班,成人教育亦将英语列为主干课程,可以说国民的英语水平比之改革开放前有了一定的提高。
