中国龟文化发源于上古神话。在中华文明的发源地,先民发现了龟的神奇能力,在龟身上寄托了对生命的崇拜。经过各朝代的发展演变,龟文化经历了从辉煌到衰退。在这一演变过程中,龟文化包含了丰富的符号学意义,即能指:堙堵、自保、防御、退缩、缓慢、智慧、神秘、力量、生殖崇拜十项;所指:和谐的自然精神、顽强的生命意识、穿越的宇宙意义三项。
