陈保亚提出的阶曲线理论为语言历史关系研究提供了两个重要的方法：概率计算法和阶曲线。这两个方法都要以选择恰当的关系词为基础。本文用除保亚的择词方法检验英语和汉语上海方言之间的关系，结果显示二者有渊源关系。造成这一荒谬结果的原因就在于择词。
The order curve theory proposed by Chen Bao-Ya provides two important methods for the study of the relationship between language history: probability calculation method and order curve. Both of these methods should be based on the choice of appropriate relational words. This paper examines the relationship between English and Chinese Shanghai dialect with the exception of Paul’s choice of words. The results show that the two are related. The reason for this absurd result is the choice of words.
