同业公会的历史可追溯至传统的会馆、公所等行会组织。步入20世纪后,曾经作为上海等重要沿江城市经济活动的“宠儿”的同业会馆、公所面临着前所未有的危机。法国一位研究近代中国经济问题的资深学者曾指出,传统的同业组织并没有提供一条通向近代辛迪加的道路。当时一种更新的经济组合体制正被工商界的精英们所期待着。这种经济组合体制可为实现更为广泛的目标提供一个组织基础。于是,与近代化相适应的新型工商业团体——同业公会便应运而生。
The history of the guild can be traced back to the traditional guilds, offices and other guild organizations. Into the 20th century, once as a favorite city of Shanghai and other economic activities of the “darling” of the same trade hall, the public is facing an unprecedented crisis. A senior French scholar who studies the economic problems of modern China has pointed out that the traditional inter-bank organization did not provide a road leading to modern Syndicate. At that time a newer economic structure was being looked forward to by the elites in business and industry. This system of economic composition can provide an organizational basis for achieving a broader goal. As a result, with the modernization of the new business and industry groups - trade associations have emerged.
