The multi-stage metamorphic rocks of the Archean form the fold basement of Proterozoic strata in the eastern Baltic Shield, occupying 70% of the area cut by the now eroded surface. The Archeology consists of several rock masses from different epochs (within the 2600-3500Ma time frame), including the White Sea, the Corrals, the Carolina basement complexes and the ribin complexes. The White Sea system and the Coora system are mainly composed of gneiss (aluminum, plagioclase and amphibolite) and amphibolite, with a total thickness of 5-7 km.
