“在广袤的非洲热带草原,一群漫不经心的斑马正低头吃草,一头母狮正悄悄地逼近,伺机捕捉……”《动物世界》节目里赵忠祥抑扬顿挫的低沉旁白,想必给每个观众都留下了深刻印象。而《动物世界》里的大多数镜头,都取自于肯尼亚与坦桑尼亚两国交界处辽阔的洛伊塔草原和塞伦盖蒂草原。由于绵长的马拉河横穿于此和两国的土著民族马萨依人(也译作马赛人)大抵分布这一地区,因此,洛伊塔草原上野生动物活跃的大部分荒原也被叫做马萨依马拉。马萨依马拉意为“马萨依人林木稀疏的草原”。
