The classic translation section of this series contains the works of two linguists in the first half of the 20th century. Bohumil Trnka (1895-1984), a linguist, one of the promoters of the Prague Linguistic Group, one of the pioneers of structuralist linguistics, is a professor of English and Old English literature at Charles University in the Czech Republic. Research involves general linguistics, phonology, morphology, syntax, statistical linguistics and so on. The monographs include “The Syntax of English Verbs from Caxton to Dayton” (1930; Japanese translation 1956), “Phonological Analysis of Contemporary Standard English” (1935) and so on.
