Objective: To investigate the significance of the severity of poisoning (PSS) in the evaluation of the severity of acute organophosphorus pesticide poisoning (AOPP) patients to guide clinical decision-making. Methods: 73 cases of acute organophosphorus pesticide poisoning were admitted to our emergency medical center from January 2004 to July 2012. The patients were divided into three groups according to the PSS score on admission. The clinical data of the three groups were compared. Results: The higher the PSS score, the higher the incidence of complications and the longer the hospitalization days. The PSS score correlated well with the APACHE II score. Conclusion: PSS score can reflect the severity of patients with acute organophosphorus pesticide poisoning, and guide the correct clinical decision-making and prognosis.
