1980年四五月间,中国图书馆学会应美国图书馆协会的邀请,我和黄钰生先生作为中国图书馆学会的两位副理事长组成代表团一行四人:我为团长、黄老为顾问,同赴旧金山参加美国图协(ALA)第100次大会。会议期间,我对美国同行们作介绍时,讲明黄老的职责、职称和经历之后,总是要加上一句:“黄先生本是我的老师的老师,我曾是他的学生的学生。”黄老则从来是很有风趣的,临了他也总爱加上一句:“丁先生他是咱们的‘老板’(Boss)。”我的前面这种说法是有事实根据的:
In April and May 1980, at the invitation of the American Library Association, China Library Association and myself and Mr. Huang Yusheng, two vice chairpersons of the Chinese Library Association, formed a delegation of four: I was head of the delegation and Huang Lao was an advisor , Went to San Francisco to participate in the United States Congress (ALA) 100th General Assembly.
