Complex colonies refer to the special phenomenon that two kinds of fungi grow on the plate. Specifically, the molds surround the yeast tightly to form a colony, which is called “combination colony”. In the test of Almond Cough Syrup, hair color was suspected to be yeast in its tiger red medium plate, and the colony edge appeared hairy like mold growth. Microscopic identification revealed yeast cells and mycelium-like substances. Under a five-fold magnifying glass, the inoculation department was used to perform the separation operation. The pink substance and the marginal hairs in the center of the colony were separated and inoculated on the Chua’s medium plate. After incubation at 25°C for seven days, only slight traces of growth were observed in the pink material, and hairlike substances grew into gray-green colonies in the plate.
