  三、閱读理解(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
  A
Read a whole book in English? Me?
Yes, you. Believe it or not that may be easier than you think. Not all classics are too difficult or complicated. So you’re not limited to simplified versions (简写本). And the easier books are not for young children.
Books in their original versions (原著) may send you to the dictionary. And you might not understand everything you read. But reading one from cover to cover will give you a real sense of accomplishment. The key is to find the right books. Let’s take a look at these.
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (C.S. Lewis)
Stepping into an old wardrobe, four English schoolchildren find themselves in the magical world of Narnia. In this delightful land, they find friends among the many talking creatures.
The children soon discover, however, that Narnia is ruled by the White Witch. Edmund, one of the children, falls under her power. Who can free Narnia? Only Aslan, the great and noble lion. He alone knows the Deeper Magic. But the children themselves must help fight the battle against the White Witch and those who save her.
The Old Man and the Sea (Ernest Hemingway)
Santiago, an old Cuban fisherman, hasn’t caught any fish in more than 80 days. Sailing far out from land, the old man hooks an enormous fish. That begins an agonizing three-day battle. First he struggles against the great fish. Then he must fight off the sharks that circle the little boat and threaten to eat his fish. Exhausted and bleeding, the old man arrives back at shore. But his fish, his beautiful fish...
Hemingway won the Pulitzer Prize for this superb story of strength and courage, of victory and regret.
A Wrinkle in Time (Madeleine Lingle)
Meg’s father, a US government scientist, has been missing for many months. He had been experimenting with time travel when he mysteriously disappeared. Now Meg, her little brother Charles Wallace and her friend Calvin will try to rescue him. But first they must outwit the forces of evil they encounter on their journey through time and space. Can they find Meg’s father before it is too late?
This novel is more than just a science-fiction adventure. It’s an exploration of the nature of our universe.
  The Pearl (John Steinbeck)
One day Kino, a poor Mexican pearl diver, finds a magnificent pearl. With it he dreams of buying a better life, new clothes and schooling for his son. Instead it brings only evil. His wife pleads with him to get rid of it. “No,” says Kino. “I will have my chance. I am a man.” But when he kills a man who is trying to steal the pearl, Kino and his wife must run for their lives.
This tale of dreams, justice and the power of greed is told simply and beautifully.
The Long Winter (Laura Ingalls Wilder)
It’s winter, 1880-8-1, on American’s northern prairies. Mr. and Mrs. Ingalls and their four girls stay near the kitchen stove to keep warm. Heavy snowstorms cut them off even from neighbors. With the trains stopped, no supplies can reach the town. Food and fuels are running out. Day after day the girls must grind wheat for bread and twist hay to burn. At times they nearly lose the battle to keep their spirits up.
This story provides a fascinating glimpse into the lives of early American settlers.

  The World Is Getting Smaller
Imagine this: a television screen the size and thickness of a piece of paper. You carry it around in your pocket and take it out when you want to watch a show. Imagine a guitar so tiny you can’t see it with the human eye, but you can hear sounds when its strings are plucked (撥). Some people say the future is big, but when it comes to technology, the world is getting smaller. Nanotechnology (纳米技术) is the science that deals with doing things in a very small way, and it is being explored and developed all over the globe. Micromachines too small to be seen by the human eye are being designed to do many things that larger machines do today. And these machines, no longer in diameter (直徑) than a human hair, are extremely powerful. Many scientists say nanotechnology will produce the next industrial revolution.
Maybe the area where nanotechnology will have the biggest impact is medical science. Imagine NanoBots (纳米机器人) in medicine. Thousands or even millions of tiny machines can be sent into the human body with specific missions. For example, they can be designed to find and destroy cancer cells or viruses. Other machines may stay in the human body permanently to help organs that are not functioning properly.
Think of the possibilities in using such tiny machines in surgery. Imagine machines so small you can swallow them in a pill or inject them into your bloodstream through a needle. After you’ve had too many years of junk food, these tiny robots could be sent into your arteries (动脉) to clean them. An intelligent machine in your heart would look around to find the problem and then repair it. If you needed an operation, it would be almost like swallowing the surgeon.
When could all of this happen? Scientists predict that much of this is possible in the next 30 years. After all, when your grandparents were young, they would have laughed if someone told them a person could walk on the moon. Thousands of scientists around the world are working on these micromachines. Nanotechnology is just around the corner.
  39. Paragraph 2 mainly discusses ______ .
  A. nanotechnology B. human eye
  C. large machines D. human hair
  40. According to the passage, the tiny medical instruments______ .
  A. can stay in human body and cure the diseases
  B. are too small to be repaired
  C. may not function well in human body
  D. can also be used to send human onto the moon
  41. The phrase “just around the corner” in the last sentence means “______”.
  A. in the distance
  B. right under your notice
  C. likely to happen soon
  D. beyond all imagination
  C
Chinese pop singer Yao Beina, who sang the Chinese version of the theme song Let It Go from the Disney movie Frozen and also the theme song of the Legend of Zhenhuan, died on Friday in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, after losing her battle with breast cancer at the age of 33, local media reported. A. players should be highly inspired by coaches
  B. great athletes need to concentrate on patience
  C. hard work is necessary in one’s achievements
  D. motivation allows great athletes to be on the top
  50. What is the best title for the passage?
  A. The Making of a Great Athlete.

  D. The Power of Full Responsibility.
  四、任务型阅读(共10题;每小题1分,满分10分)
  请认真阅读下列短文,并根据所读内容在文章后表格中的空格里填入最恰当的单词。
You probably already know that you can lose weight by taking less food. But if you’re an emotional eater, you’ll still turn to food if you don’t deal with your feelings.
  What Is Emotional Eating?
Basically, emotional eating is eating for reasons other than hunger. In other words, you reach for food not because your body tells you it needs food but because your emotions need to be satisfied. Instead of the gradual urge you get when you’re physically hungry, emotional eating strikes you suddenly. Instead of filling the empty space with healthy choices, emotional eaters use food for comfort. For women, it’s usually ice cream or chocolate, while men reach for steak and French fries.
Emotional Eating Leaves You Feeling Guilty
Besides blowing up your stomach, emotional eating does harm to your mind. When you eat for physical reasons, you don’t feel guilty. But when you eat food just because you’re feeding your emotions, you feel guilty afterward.
Recognizing the “Red Lights” with “HALT”
When you’re lured (誘惑) into emotional eating, please remember to HALT. Besides being reminded to stop before you do any damage, remember what HALT represents.
“H” is for hungry—Sometimes you can feel physical hunger when you’re on the point of an emotional eating. But rather than reaching for those comfort foods rich in fat and sugar, make better choices such as proteins, fruits and vegetables.
“A” is for anxious—It’s easy to fall into emotional eating when you’re worried and tense. Do whatever is effective to calm down. Call a friend, pray, or keep a record of your feelings. Just don’t reach for food.
“L” is for lonely—Too often emotional eaters use food for companionship. Instead of comforting yourself with food, join a group of caring people who understand your problem.
“T” is for tired—When tired, either physically or emotionally, emotional eaters turn to food. Instead, get some rest or eat something good for you. Breaking the Addiction
Often emotional eaters aren’t even aware that they’re overeating because something is troubling them. Whenever you feel the desire to eat out of your emotions, replace it with helpful activities such as calling a friend, walking your dog, gardening or exercising.
Most importantly, find out the reason(s) why you overeat. You won’t break your food addiction unless you get to the root of why you overeat.
  (51) ______ Eating

  五、One possible version:
Volunteer spirit is rooted in the hearts of many people, especially young people in China. In recent years, there have been large numbers of volunteers devoting their time and effort to people in need.
The picture shows us a touching moment when two volunteers help a disabled man in a wheelchair. Realizing it would be impossible for the man to get to the top all by himself, the volunteers carry the wheelchair with difficulty step by step up the stairs.
This picture reminds me of many volunteers in my school, my community and our country, helping not just the disabled, but also those who can’t find their way around, or those who suffer from misfortune. Volunteers make a difference to these people when they bring them warmth, comfort and relief.
I would be happy to be a volunteer, too, and help the senior citizens in the House for the Aged regularly so that they will not feel lonely but enjoy their life to the full.
