  Establishment of the pool of primordial follicles each consisting of an oocyte surrounded by a layer of somatic cells is essential for mammalian fertility.However,very little is known about the breakdown of germ-cell nests and formation of primordial follicles.Previously,only few factors such as Notch2,Jagged1 and NOBOX are associated with this process.In our study,Specificity protein 1(Sp1),a zinc-finger transcription factor that regulates multiple cellular functions was found to be essential for the mouse primordial follicle formation.
