As the simplest multi-cellular invertebrate animals, sponges (Porifera), are the second largest biomass on tropical reefs after corals and possess an exceptional diversity of bioactive metabolites for new drug development [1].Axinella sp., collected from South China Sea, has been proved to produce hymenialdisine and debromohymenialdisine (two MAPK pathway inhibitors [2]).In vitro culture of archaeocytes from Axinella sp.has been proposed as a good model to study the metabolic pathway of these pharmacologically compounds.In this regard, the development of serum free medium has become a major task.
