National saving plays a vital and collective role for the sustainability and growth of an emerging economy because it encourages investment, eliminate poverty and create employment opportunities for the citizens in any economy of the world. The primary aim of this research study was to explore the determinants which affect the national saving of Pakistan. In this study autoregressive distributed lag model was utilized for the purpose to explore the long-run and the short-run association exists among gross domestic saving(dependent variable),inflation, interest rate, money supply growth per capita income, personal remittances and tax revenue(independent variables).Time series Data were obtained from 1975-2018 from the website of World development indicator(WDI).The results of the ARDL model disclosed that inflation rate(CPI),lending interest rate, personal remittances and tax revenue have a significant impact on the gross domestic saving in the long run while money supply growth and per capita income have insignificant impact on the gross domestic saving in the long-run.Inflation rate(CPI),money supply growth and tax revenue exert positive effect on gross domestic saving in the long run in Pakistan while Interest rate, per capita income and personal remittances have negative effect on gross domestic saving in the long run in Pakistan. However in the short run lending interest rate and personal remittances have significant effect on gross domestic saving in Pakistan while Inflation rate(CPI),money supply growth, per capita and tax revenue have insignificant effect on gross domestic saving in Pakistan.Inflation rate(CPI),money supply growth, per capita and tax revenue have positive effect on gross domestic saving in the short-run in Pakistan while lending interest rate and personal remittances have negative effect on gross domestic saving in the short run in Pakistan.Based on the results of this research study,it is suggested that the government of Pakistan should try to implement favorable monetary policy through its central bank in order to eliminate high rate of inflation and offer high rate of interest rate to the deposit account holders so that they may save their money.Whereas, the government should also assist the families of the emigrant workers when they receive money it will boost the inflow of personal remittances and emigrant will transfer their money without any hurdle. The government should also adopt favorable policies for the sustainability and economic development of the country. It will be better both for the money supply of the country as well it will improve the per capita income of the people of the country. On the other hand the government should also collect tax revenue in a transparent method so that people may save money and not spent on unnecessary product.Furthermore, the collection of tax money will enable the government to spend money on the welfare of the citizen as well as infrastructure system of the country. It is recommended that proper policies may be adopted for financial institutions of the Pakistan for the purpose to achieve main goal of economic growth, capital formation. On the other hand policies of income effect and prices effect should be presented and adopted for beneficial changes in behavior of saving.
