Based on the field work of adjacent coal seam No.2 of Early Permian Shanxi Formation in Wuda region, Inner Mongolia, 12 genera and 14 species of plant fossils were systematically collected. According to sedimentary environment and plant paleoecology analysis, the succession sequence of vegetation communities growing in the Early Permian delta plain environment in this area was identified, including the early and late five communities, namely: 1) the Lepidodendron incertum Sze et Lee community, (2) the community of Lepidodendron incertum-Lepidodendron posthumii Jongm.et Goth., Which reflects the marsh vegetation before the coal formation in No.2 coal seam ceased to be coal-forming; and 3) Stigmaria ficoides (Sternb.) Brongn. Calamites suckowii Brongn. Community, vegetation that reflects the growth of wetlands between detritus swamps and rivers in the flood plains; 4) Lepidodendron incertum-Calamites suckowii community representing detritus and swamp vegetation on the floodplain in the area; 5) Pecopteris taiyuanensis Halle-Emplectopteris triangularis Halle-Taeniopteris serrulata Halle community, which reflects the vegetation ecological community in the natural bank and the floodplain upstream of the river. The overall appearance of the plant community as a typical Chinese flora (such as weaving fern teeth, a large number of ferns and oriental scales wood). The current community succession sequence reflects the succession of the Permian Cathaysian assemblages from coal to detritus and the stability of the coal-bearing vegetation in the Huaxia area.
