说到江南水乡,就该首推壮阔浩渺的太湖,因为只有太湖才能显示出宏大的气势。2420平方公里的太湖跨江苏、浙江两省,东邻苏州吴江、吴县,西托宜兴、长兴,南依湖州,北靠无锡,有着3933公里的湖岸线。太湖号称三万六千顷,是我国第三大淡水湖。浩瀚的湖面,时而波涛汹涌,时而浮光耀镜。远处,七十二峰缥缈隐现,随波起伏;近处,山明水秀,渔帆点点,构成了一幅幅江南水乡的天然图画。湖中群岛,山中坞谷,山顶峰峦,真山真水,举足可至。
