At the beginning of 1997, the GWP secretariat based in Sweden had good news: With the approval of the Chinese Ministry of Water Resources and Global Water Partnership, the Yangtze River Water Conservancy Commission was absorbed as a member of the Global Water Partnership and became China’s first country to join the Global Water Partnership Member units. The Global Water Partnership was a global organization established in 1995 at the Stockholm Water Festival in Stockholm, Sweden. Delegates to this meeting came from the political affairs of 56 countries of the UN agencies respectively
