一九七三年十二月,我国文物考古工作者在发掘长沙马王堆三号汉墓时,获得大批的珍贵文物。特别重要的是写在绢帛上的二十多种书籍,总字数达十二万多字,另外还有几幅画在帛上的图和一部竹简医书。其中大部分都是早已失传的。这些珍贵古籍,现已由国家严格保护,并组织有关专业人员,进行修复整理和考释研究。帛书的书体有篆书、隶书,或是介于二者之间的。从书体特点来看,并非出于一人之手,在时间上也有早晚之分。从墓中出土木牍得知,墓的埋葬时间是汉文帝初元十二年(公元前一六八年),则这批帛书和简书写成年代,距今至少已有二千一百四十二年。
