POEMS syndrome, also known as Crow-Fukase syndrome, the etiology has not been fully elucidated. The serum level of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in patients with POEMS syndrome is positively correlated with the occurrence and development of the disease. High levels of serum VEGF may play an important role in the production of a series of symptoms of POEMS syndrome by promoting angiogenesis, changing microvessel density, and changing vascular permeability. Currently for the treatment of POEMS syndrome mainly high-dose chemotherapy combined with autologous peripheral blood stem cell transplantation, thalidomide and bevacizumab and so on. To review the role of VEGF in the pathogenesis of POEMS and the progress of targeted therapy.
