【Abstract】Douglas Robinson’s Becoming a Translator：An Introduction to the Theory and Practice of Translation has been well received around the world.Fusing translation theory with advice and information about the practicalities of translating，it is an essential resource for novice and practicing translators.

Becoming a Translator，fusing translation theory with advice and information about the practicalities of translating，is an essential resource for novice and practicing translators.This book is written by Douglas Robinson.He explores the various problems the translator must concern，and provides the type of information and advice that novice and professional translators really need.
Becoming a Translator will also be of interest to professional translators and students of translation and language.Chen Hongwei pointed that this book received a favorable review from British and American experts，which combines translation theory，translation theme and translation practice into one.（Chen Hongwei，2006，p.61） Han Ziman thought it’s very suitable for the training material of professional translators，especially as a textbook for such courses as Introduction to translation.（Han Ziman，2004，p.58）
This book has four features.First，its layout is flexible.There is a thesis summarizing the main idea of each chapter.At the end of each chapter，there are discussions and exercises for the users to review and further understand the contents.The chapter will end with suggestions for further reading，among which most are influential western works.And this kind of layout will help the users have a good understanding of the contents and make use of it well.Second，all the discussions are people-centered.Different from the previous translation works，this book recounts the role of translator rather than talks much about the translation skills.It cites some translators’ personal experience to illustrate the role of translator in the whole society.Nida （Quoted from Robinson） thought that “translating means channeling meaning-and influence，and connectedness-through vast global communicative networks” （Nida
