海南岛主要居住有黎族和苗族两个少数民族。黎族是海南最早的居民和开拓者，也是我国最早从事棉纺织的民族之一。《尚书·禹贡》：“岛夷卉服，蕨篚织贝”是对海南岛先民从事纺织业的记载。“贝”指吉贝，在黎语中是棉花的意思。秦汉时，黎族人民生产的“广幅布”更是驰名海内 Hainan Island mainly lives in Li and Miao two ethnic minorities. Qin and Han Dynasties, Li people’s production of “broad cloth” is well-known at home
