1946年春,我在国统区北平新华分社《解放》报(即解放三日刊)工作时,曾听到美术家蔡若虹同志为我讲述他在延安看歌剧《白毛女》,喜儿是由王昆扮演的事.这是我第一次听到王昆的名字.不久,我到张家口进入华北联合大学文艺学院戏剧系学习,第一次有机会观看由学校文工团演出的歌剧《白毛女》和由王昆扮演的喜儿,这是我到解放区受到的第一次生动形象的阶级教育课,它使我激动了好久好久.
