1996年6月13日,英国航空公司和美利坚航空公司宣布结成联盟,以便进一步扩展双方的航线网络。联盟协议将于1997年4月开始实施。届时,两家航空公司将协调他们在欧洲和美国之间的客货运输,在彼此的网络上实行航班编号共享,同时,实现两公司的飞行优惠公里数计划的互惠结合。通过协调双方的运营网络,两家公司的航班可达美国、加拿大、卡罗比、拉丁美洲及欧洲、非洲、中东及远东的3600多个配对城市。
June 13, 1996, British Airways and American Airlines announced an alliance in order to further expand the route network on both sides. Union agreement will be implemented in April 1997. By then, the two airlines will coordinate their passenger and freight transport between Europe and the United States, implement flight numbering on each other's networks, and at the same time, achieve reciprocal integration of the two companies' preferred flyer mileage programs. By coordinating their networks, the two companies have flights to more than 3,600 matching cities in the United States, Canada, Carlo, Latin America and Europe, Africa, the Middle East and the Far East.
